The Light of Self Knowledge

For centuries, the Scientific Community has embraced the Doctrine of Materialism, which holds that all that is real and exists is composed purely of physical matter, and that phenomena such as consciousness and mental processes are produced purely through brain activity. That is, when someone dies and their brain no longer functions, they can’t possibly be conscious. However, for several decades evidence has been mounting that this is not true, forcing us to consider that consciousness can separate from the body to function in either a physical or non-physical existence. If this is true, non-physical phenomena might influence physical reality.

This would apply to everyone, but there are two groups that are of specific concern. The scientific community has a big problem with this, because this would mean they don’t have a realistic understanding of the universe. One obvious consequence would be that rather than consciousness being a function of the brain, the brain might simply be used by consciousness to control the body, and that consciousness will function with or without a brain. The scientific community has another looming problem in that climate change appears poised to render our planet uninhabitable before we can populate other planets. Materialism could then be relabeled as Inconsequentialism, as this would soon result in no trace of humanity throughout the universe.

The other group of concern would be individuals who have experienced a Near-Death, Out-of-Body Event, or NDE. The vast majority of these individuals have no doubt that consciousness survives the death of the physical body, and that this is the most dramatic and euphoric experience they could ever imagine. This is so profound that many who have had NDEs go to lengths to somehow revisit and build on the experience. Very commonly this is accomplished through psychic practitioners on the internet facilitating communication with deceased family members. However, the less familiar, but ultimate means of exploring our out-of-the body capabilities lies in contemplative mystical teachings which have been taught for thousands of years.

So, the purpose of this website is to serve both the scientific and NDE communities. The scientific community has always turned toward evidence-based studies, and since 1991 there has been a spectacular NDE case which conclusively proves consciousness survives death, but the scientific community largely ignores its existence. For the NDE crowd, there is no need to prove the existence of consciousness beyond death, because they have had the experience, and nothing is more meaningful than that. As well, you will see that the number of individuals experiencing NDEs is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions, which provides profound statistical significance and an audience with extreme motivation. And if you happen to have an interest in the study of consciousness, but are not a scientist nor have had an NDE, don’t despair. All that is necessary is the study and practice of a mystical teaching that covers all the realms of the universe. So with all this in mind, here is the overview that explores the question:

What if You Never Had to Die?

The following video presents a brief overview of the hidden reality available to us through the study of consciousness.  If this is of interest to you, a more in-depth presentation can be read and downloaded here.  This paper is also available at Academia.edu along with conversations and comments.

Is Consciousness Cause or Effect?

For centuries the scientific community has embraced the Doctrine of Materialism, which characterizes consciousness as an outcome of brain activity and her eyes and ears were rendered non-functional.  This simply isn’t possible since Pam Reynolds related corroborated visual and conversational accounts during her surgery when her brain presented no detectable activity.  For the scientific community to dismiss non-physical aspects of the universe without exploration is to assume the millions of similar reports of NDEs are simply without statistical significance.  Although this is not logical, it is understandable that often only personal experience can convince one of its reality.

It has taken me many years to assimilate my experiences and characterize them appropriately. Some of my earlier presentations focused on the unification of Quantum Mechanics and spiritual teachings where the spiritual teachings explain what Quantum Mechanics cannot, but I finally realized that would likely only appeal to a tiny group of physicists. Instead, I feel certain that a significant percentage of the millions of individuals who have had NDEs already know the NDE is real. They don’t need any convincing. And it is extremely common for these people to be of the opinion that nothing could possibly be greater than an NDE. I felt that way for 12 years after my NDE. Well there’s good news about that. There is an experience just waiting for you that is infinitely greater.

According to the Scientific American, “… 5 to 10 percent of the general population is estimated to have memories of an NDE.” And since the world population has topped 8 billion, that’s up to 800,000,000 NDEs, which is far beyond the barrier for statistical significance. This is where we get the most convincing evidence that consciousness is non-physical and survives the body at death. Regarding significance, physical science provides us with countless puzzles as distractions to keep us busy as we search for meaning, until we eventually learn of the Eternal Realm and its significance. The full understanding of life is fundamental. And you shouldn’t feel left out if you haven’t had an NDE. The enormous number of existing NDE reports provide the motivation to study separation of consciousness as the means to attain the experience of eternal, universal consciousness, but the vast majority will skip the NDE and go directly to contemplative study. Or perhaps those who have had an NDE might constitute the majority, as they have already established the reality of consciousness surviving death of the body.

I consider the Pam Reynolds story to be the most convincing proof that consciousness survives death of the physical body. When I brought this claim to the attention of a prominent consciousness researcher, his response was that he was reluctant to accept just a single data point. That is fair, so I am willing to reduce my claim of “proof” to “evidence”. Evidence sufficient to compel consciousness researchers to test this claim. This researcher stated that he had studied a form of meditation in this regard, but that his effort was “abortive.” This is telling in regard to my mystical study, in that my study supports the claim that God Consciousness extremely unlikely without the personal guidance of an experienced spiritual guide. The scientific community is unlikely to ever establish the reality of fundamentality of consciousness without this level of exploration. My personal exploration of mystical teachings provided the experience of God Consciousness in slightly less than two years of contemplative practice, which is far less time than is typically required to attain a Ph.D.

It all boils down to whether the brain creates consciousness for its purposes, or consciousness utilizes the mind and brain to control one’s bodies for the purposes of exploring the realms of time and space and expressing itself. Fundamentally, it doesn’t matter which position is correct, because if the Doctrine of Materialism is correct, all traces of humanity will vanish from the universe as soon as our planet loses the capability to support human life, and humanity will have lost all meaning. On this basis alone, we should adopt a very strong effort to explore mystical teachings. On the other hand, if mystical teachings are correct, it is inevitable that all consciousness will eventually function within the Eternal Realm, and the consideration of when this occurs is meaningless. Whatever day one accepts this truth is one’s personal liberation day. If the Doctrine of Materialism is correct, it is a certainty that climate change will eventually render the Doctrine of Materialism meaningless as the last of us pass away. Take your pick.
