Welcome to the Community

Welcome!

Welcome to the Community Section of the Lumignosis website for the Understanding and Development of Consciousness.  In some of the earliest articles and videos below there will be mention of the “Institute for Theoretical Unification.”  That came from my initial attempt to convince the scientific community that consciousness survives death of the body.  What was I thinking?  The scientific community may consider this to be scientific heresy for quite some time to come.  There may be such an institute created in the future, but this remains just a potentiality.  So through the years of seeking the most receptive audience, I have created several versions of presentations with significant overlap to unite mainstream science and spiritual teachings, and most of them are presented below.  And then there was my relatively recent discovery of the Pam Reynolds story, which I consider to be definitive proof that consciousness survives death of the body.

So rather than attempt to separate the scientific community from the doctrine of materialism, the only practical approach now seems to focus my efforts on the hundreds of millions who have experienced NDEs and are already convinced that consciousness can exist without the body, and many of these would gladly revisit the experience if they could do so without dying.  So relating the reality and means of being able to go far beyond an NDE to attain God Consciousness could easily result in success beyond anything the physical science community might ever accept, as the scientific community seems unlikely to realize significant benefits from mystical teachings any time soon.  Those who have had an NDEs seem far more likely to lead humanity to complete freedom within the universe.  Of course the experience of an NDE is not necessary for enlightenment.  All are welcome to take up the study of God Consciousness.  An NDE simply provides a heavy dose of euphoria to boost one’s curiosity and desire to take this up as a serious study sooner rather than later.

THERE’S NO WAKE-UP CALL LIKE A NEAR-DEATH EXPERIENCE
We first turn to a discussion of Near Death Experiences, or NDEs. My personal NDE was foundational in terms of motivation to formulate and answer all our questions. What follows is the result of over 40 years of my research.

NDE Commentary

Welcome to the first of a series of commentaries to follow each of the introductory videos on the Lumignosis website in turn, with this episode focusing on the video of What We Are and How We Explore the Universe, and supplementing the video content with further discussion.  Following each of these commentaries, you are encouraged to submit any questions or comments you might have.
Regarding the account of my Near Death Experience, something amusing occurred just after I felt the tingling start to creep up my legs.  I mentioned to the doctor that I was feeling faint, and asked if I could lie back.  “Of course,” he said, and then asked his nurse to check my pulse.  The nurse dutifully picked up one of my hands and checked for a pulse.  She then placed my hand back by my side, and lifted my other hand to check for a pulse there.  She then placed that hand by my side, turned to the doctor, and very matter-of-factly said, “He doesn’t have one.”  She then turned around and started to walk away.
This seemed so absurd to me that I almost laughed out loud.  The nurse’s actions were so nonchalant that it seemed she must be thinking to herself, “Well, he killed another one.  Ehh, it’s Tuesday.”
Fortunately, the doctor didn’t share her blasé attitude and blurted loudly, “Get some oxygen on him!”  At that point, I was still calm, but quite curious about what was happening.
I subsequently experienced perhaps 4 or 5 of the convulsions of light and sound as mentioned in the video, before they suddenly ceased, leaving me in total absence of any light or sound, and the sense of being alone was profound.  This feeling was very brief, and I really didn’t have a chance to react to it before I realized I was dying.  In contrast to everything that had happened up to this point, the realization of dying was profoundly comforting, and amazingly, it seemed so familiar.
And then I had that devastating realization that everything in my 18 years of physical existence had just lost all meaning.  What a complete waste of time!  I was taking nothing of value with me.  I guess the takeaway from this, is that if one is enjoying the nearly endless succession of reincarnations, then there is no need to change anything you’re doing.  The process of reincarnation is automatic and works flawlessly.  Eventually, though, the movie of our karmatic Groundhog Day loses its novelty, and it becomes imperative to escape from this routine.
And thank God for Elizabeth Kübler-Ross.  Until I became aware of her work, I was concerned I might be an extreme aberration of my species.  My ignorance had stopped me in my tracks.  And by definition, when one is ignorant, one has no way of knowing the depths of one’s ignorance.  Eventually learning that Near Death Experiences were quite common was an incredible relief and provided a great sense of liberation.
Full assimilation of my NDE took well over a decade.  Beyond the realization that I had just wasted a lifetime, the most overwhelming parts were the euphoria and sense of drama associated with the experience.  These two factors caused me to instantly jump to the conclusion that this must have been heaven, because what could possibly be greater than what I had just experienced?  And I feel certain this same simplistic logic has caused the vast majority of others to draw the same conclusion.  It took me a decade to conclude otherwise, and now with the advantage of several decades of perspective, I realize one’s spiritual journey is infinitely more magnificent than what I experienced on that day.  But this isn’t to demean the accounts of so many reporting heavenly Near Death Experiences or the likes of opening communication with deceased relatives and friends.  I feel certain that although the current internet dialogue of NDEs tends to focus on the euphoria of the event, rather than what follows the NDE toward the ultimate completion of our spiritual journeys, NDE accounts are immensely valuable in motivating many to heighten their pursuit of spiritual issues.  Everyone must start wherever they are, and I am delighted to relate that the journey to universal consciousness becomes a crescendo of ever-increasing satisfaction.
Focusing on the scientific community’s response to Kübler-Ross, that the Out-of-Body experiences could all be explained by oxygen starvation of the brain, I think that some common-sense analysis of my experience can lead to wholesale dismissal of the claim that hallucination accounts for Near Death, Out-of-Body-Experiences.
Those convulsions of light and sound I experienced weren’t meant to be considered as hallucinations.  Rather, I would characterize them as gross distortions of sensory stimuli due to the rapid failure of bodily systems while dying.  In contrast, a few decades later, I had the opportunity to experience a textbook hallucination.  At one point in my career, I was racing against a nearly impossible deadline to complete a video for national broadcast.  The deadline was the schedule for the satellite uplink.  Broadcast quality desktop video production had just become available, and my only option was to use a pre-release beta-version computer workstation.  The software was so prone to crash, that after the first two weeks of 18-hour days, I realized I would need to work 24 hours a day for the final week in order to have any hope of making the deadline.  The only stimulant I relied upon was my typical coffee intake.  After about the first three of the 24-hour work days, as a delivery person entered the room where I was working, the entire interior of the room warped into a spherical bubble.  Other than being refashioned into a sphere, everything was perfectly recognizable.  There was no doubt this was a hallucination, but other than suffering a change in geometry, nothing was out of the ordinary.  Processing by my brain continued without interruption, only my vision was mapped onto the interior surface of a sphere.  Although this was a major league break from reality, I had so much work to do I couldn’t take time to enjoy the hallucination.
So that’s what I would classify as a hallucination.  In contrast, complete shutdown of all brain processing during an NDE, followed by Out-of-the-Body, razor-sharp vision and hearing, is what happens when you get the brain out of the way, and that is most certainly not a hallucination.  The brain must have oxygen to function.  The mind, being non-physical, doesn’t require oxygen at all.  In this regard, it has been all too common for scientists to analyze others’ perceptual experiences, without having any personal experience of their own.  Seriously, unless a scientist has had their own NDE, they should forego any attempt to analyze anyone else’s Near Death Experience.  Without your own experience, you’re missing the empirical foundation, that makes this a reality.
Kübler-Ross provided her own very strong scientific rebuttal to the claim that Near-Death, Out-of-Body Experiences are hallucinatory, when she focused her analysis to only the case files of those who had been completely blind, for at least ten years.  Since Dr. Kübler-Ross did not have the opportunity to publish her research before her data was destroyed by arson, her reporting was reduced to largely anecdotal accounts in her writing.
To do justice to Kübler-Ross’ efforts, in 1997, Dr. Kenneth Ring, along with his research assistant, collaborated with support groups for the blind, to complete 31 such interviews of blind individuals.  It also bears mention that one of these individuals had both his eyes removed by the time he was 4½ years old.  Their publication of A Study of Apparent Eyeless Vision, established that there is no possible physical explanation of this phenomenon, and that consciousness and the mind survive physical death and are non-physical, separating from the body at death.  And as mentioned in the website text following the video, the reality of seeing and hearing events occurring during a Near-Death, Out-of-Body Experience, while the brain is incapable of processing, indicates that electromagnetic energy is being received and processed by something that is completely non-physical.
Don’t look for mainstream physics to come up with an explanation for this anytime soon.  However, I am intrigued by the possibility that if there are deceased physicists on the astral plane who study an astral version of physics, perhaps they could provide some insight.  I’ll throw this challenge out to any mediums who might be interested.  If you get any results, please let me know.  Brain function encompasses some very interesting biochemistry, but function of the mind throughout the realms of time and space must be truly fascinating.
Returning to Ring’s research, when one accepts this as proof that the mind and consciousness are non-physical, can exist outside the body, and survive death, this begs the pursuit of mystical claims that one does not need to die in order to have an Out-of-Body Experience.  Further, anyone is capable of an Out-of-Body Experience, and such, Out-of-the-Body Travel turns out to be the most powerful means of exploring the universe.  I should also mention here that there is widespread disagreement about the nature of the brain, mind, and consciousness.  It is a commonly held belief among many scientists that the brain and mind are the same, and that the brain creates consciousness.  I even attended a talk by a famous authority on spiritual matters, who stated without equivocation that the brain creates reality.  At first, I couldn’t believe what I had just heard.  But then, I simply realized I could no longer have any faith in anything that person said.  Kenneth Ring’s research proves that the mind and brain cannot be the same, and those who have had Near Death Out-of-Body Experiences will validate, that during an Out-of-Body Experience, the mind functions perfectly normally even though the brain has ceased all processing functions.  The issue of a possible distinction between the mind and consciousness cannot be settled until one explores the realm beyond time and space.  As will be related in a subsequent discussion, the mind is a construct within the realms of time and space, and as such, cannot function in the realm beyond time and space; whereas, the realm beyond time and space allows consciousness to perceive absolute reality without interference, and the limitlessness of its functionality cannot be appreciated, until this realm is explored empirically.  One spiritual teaching incorporates this as part of its creation story, in saying that God created the mind so that Consciousness could make sense of the realms of time and space.
Some of you are undoubtedly familiar with Out-of-the-Body Travel, and if you already find this to be a productive means of exploring the universe, then you should continue to utilize what works for you.  However, if you lack experience with such a technique, you should feel free to explore any of the historical mystical teachings mentioned on the website.  It is quite common for the various teachings to offer a variety of introductory and instructional materials, and often personal guidance as well.  Since I only have long-term familiarity with Eckankar, I will make reference to their offerings when it seems appropriate.
In particular, Eckankar is taught around the world, and quite possibly offers classes near you.  If information is not available to you locally, Eckankar offers several books on this (https://www.eckbooks.org/index.php?p=catalog&mode=search&search_in=name&search_str=spiritual+exercises+of+eck&x=0&y=0), described as Spiritual Exercises, as well as a wide range of other resources on their website (https://www.eckankar.org/).
At this point, I will provide some insight regarding contemplation and meditation, or whatever you wish to call it, and Out-of-the-Body experiences.  Over my decades of teaching physics in a variety of universities, I would usually have a student or two each semester who would stop by during office hours, wanting to discuss more esoteric issues, which would often wind up generating questions on spiritual matters.  I would point them toward the usual spiritual references and suggest they might want to try contemplation.  Following this, subsequent conversations with them would sometimes relate that they hadn’t become aware of any Out-of-Body experiences during contemplation, and I would relate that this is common at first, but that persistence was quite likely to pay off.
At one point, I decided to change my approach, so for the next two such students who dropped by, I made a point of mentioning that most people who try contemplation do not have success with out-of-the-body travel at first, so it’s probably best to not have expectations of success the first time.  I had separate conversations with these two students at almost the same time that semester, and for both of them, the day after I suggested they contemplate without having expectations of success, they returned to my office the next day and were furious with me.  Since they were specifically told not to expect any out-of-body experience, they were completely unprepared when they found themselves floating up by the ceiling, looking down at their body below.  This seriously freaked them out.  I completely understand that when something like this happens unexpectedly, the mind can become quite upset.
Of course, if someone were to expect such success with absolute faith, that very well might produce immediate results.  But without previous experience, expectations are usually unrealistic and often significantly interfere with what might happen.  I remember early in my contemplative study that after I would read accounts of some master’s experience, I would then decide that I wanted to have exactly the same experience.  Which, as you might guess, led to an utter lack of success on my part.  In one such instance, I finally resigned myself to abandon efforts to replicate someone else’s experience, which immediately led to experiencing exactly the event I had been hoping for.  Expectations can be either stimulative and productive, or completely block your efforts.  Your experience will likely be somewhere in between.
At one point in my study, I asked Spirit again and again in contemplation, at least hundreds of times; perhaps thousands, why wasn’t I experiencing certain exalted states of consciousness during contemplation.  (I am nothing, if not persistent.)  And I consistently got nothing out of this effort.  Until one day, upon asking the same question, I finally heard this crystal clear voice respond, “What can you accept?”
The bottom line?
RELAX
There is nothing of actual substance you do not already possess.
The only challenge, is becoming aware of it.
The sooner you can accept the reality of what is, the sooner you can become aware of it.  And don’t be surprised if this requires abandoning most expectations.

Characterization vs. Utilization of Consciousness

The scientific community has historically characterized consciousness as a product of the brain rather than something that has independent capabilities.  For instance, the seating in a car can serve as an environment for facilitating communication with others.  However, the far greater benefit of a car is how far it can take you.   Likewise, consciousness facilitates communication, but CONSCIOUSNESS can also accomplish the ultimate awareness of everything, everywhere, at the same eternal instant without any risk at all.  To dismiss this capability is to assume the millions of similar reports of NDEs are hallucinations devoid of significance, thereby preferring nearly endless incarnations of ignorance instead of focusing on our eventual evolution.  So many shiny objects hold our attention while within the physical realm.  But these shiny objects always eventually disappear while consciousness does not.   And the only practical way to attain our evolutionary goals is to utilize the guidance of a spiritual master who will provide the experiences we need, rather than what caught our attention while reading the experiences of others.

And we can only accept the reality of non-physical aspects of the universe through experience.  This is only practical when facilitated through guidance from a spiritual master due to the infinite nature of the entire universe.

It has taken me many years to assimilate my experiences and characterize them appropriately.  In the early years of my study I focused on the unification of Quantum Mechanics and spiritual teachings where the spiritual teachings explain what Quantum Mechanics cannot, but I finally realized that would likely only appeal to a tiny group of physicists.  Instead, I now realize that the audience most likely to benefit from the practice of separation of consciousness will consist of a percentage of the millions of individuals who have had NDEs and  already know the NDEs are real.  They don’t need any convincing.  And they will likely popularize the evolution of consciousness far more effectively than the scientific community ever could.  They will be relating their experiences, not concepts.

According to the Scientific American, “… 5 to 10 percent of the general population is estimated to have memories of an NDE.”  And since the world population has topped 8 billion, that’s up to 800,000,000 NDEs, which is far beyond the barrier for statistical significance.  This is where we get the most convincing evidence that consciousness is non-physical and survives the body at death.  Regarding significance, physical science provides us with countless puzzles as distractions to keep us busy as we search for meaning, until we eventually learn of the Eternal Realm and its significance.  The full understanding of life is fundamental  and is our ultimate, inevitable goal.  And it is extremely common for those who have experienced an NDE to believe that nothing could possibly be greater.  I felt that way for 12 years after my NDE.  Well there’s good news about that.  There is an experience just waiting for you that is infinitely greater.  The enormous number of existing NDE reports provide the motivation to study separation of consciousness as the means to attain the experience of universal, or God consciousness, whereas the scientific community provides almost no motivation.  My guess is that this means those that had NDEs will constitute the majority attaining the experience of God Consciousness.  However, in my extremely small sample of two people and myself experiencing this state, two of them did not experience an NDE.

I consider the Pam Reynolds story to be the most convincing proof that consciousness survives death of the physical body.  When I brought this claim to the attention of a prominent consciousness researcher, his response was that he was reluctant to accept just a single data point.  That is fair, so I am willing to reduce my claim of “proof” to “evidence”.  Evidence sufficient to compel consciousness researchers to test this claim.  This researcher stated that he had studied a form of meditation in this regard, but that his effort was “abortive.”  This is telling in regard to my mystical study, in that my study supports the claim that God Consciousness extremely unlikely without the personal guidance of a spiritual master.  The scientific community is unlikely to ever establish the reality of fundamentality of consciousness without this level of exploration.  My personal exploration of mystical teachings provided the experience of God Consciousness in slightly less than two years of contemplative practice, which is far less time than is typically required for a Ph.D. It all boils down to whether the brain creates consciousness for its purposes, or consciousness utilizes the mind and brain to control one’s bodies for the purposes of exploring the realms of time and space and expressing itself.  Fundamentally, it doesn’t matter which position is correct, because if the Doctrine of Materialism is correct, all traces of humanity will vanish from the universe as soon as our planet loses the capability to support human life, and humanity will have lost all meaning.  On this basis alone, we should adopt a very strong effort to explore mystical teachings.  On the other hand, if mystical teachings are correct, it is inevitable that all consciousness will eventually function within the Eternal Realm, and the consideration of when this occurs is meaningless.  Whatever day one accepts this truth is one’s personal liberation day.  If the Doctrine of Materialism is correct, it is a certainty that climate change will eventually render the Doctrine of Materialism meaningless as the last of us pass away.  Take your pick.

In any case, I’m betting that if only 100 million individuals who have experienced an NDE become aware that they can infinitely surpass their NDE by experiencing God Consciousness, they will surpass everything the scientific community is currently on-track to accomplish. The physical realm will still exist, and there will remain the need to understand how to navigate through life as long as they utilize a physical body. Eventually, however, everyone will realize our most fundamental accomplishment is to realize and master our relationship with the entire universe.

Points to Ponder

What You Are

You can live as you choose.

But you can’t change what you are.

And eventually you will choose to learn what you are.

Just Spent a Lifetime Doing What?!!

Overall, at age 18, my NDE was the most magnificent experience in my life, until my experience of an instant of God Consciousness at age 31.

The most devastating, depressing moment of my life was when my brain shut down during my NDE and everything became perfect stillness within a black void, and I realized that life until that moment had been completely hollow, devoid of substance.  There was nothing from that lifetime that I was taking with me.  Later I recharacterized that realization with the question of I just spent a lifetime doing what?!  I had accomplished nothing.  Fortunately, I only needed to suffer that realization for the instant it took to spring into the awareness that I had popped out of my body and entered into what must be heaven.  And I believed nothing could possibly be better than this for 12 years, until I experienced of an instant of God Consciousness, which was infinitely greater.

And in large measure, at the instant of death when we realize we have nothing to take with us from the physical realm, we realize the lie of the Doctrine of Materialism.  Because as long as we believe nothing exists beyond the physical realm, we are denying our opportunity to explore the universe beyond the physical realm.

You never learned how to separate consciousness from the body, and one must learn how to do this to be on the way to being free of the realms of time and space.

God is Smarter Than You

God is smarter than you.  However, as creation stories indicate, God realized individual consciousness couldn’t evolve in an eternal, or static realm, and so, created the realms of time and space where causality is perceived so consciousness can reason and come to understand the structure and rationale of the universe.  The ultimate, inevitable goal was for each individual to eventually return to the eternal realm and share in the consciousness of God.  In fact, there have always been spiritual masters available to train those who are ready for the discipline of contemplation, where consciousness can be separated from our bodies of time and space, and attain realization of the eternal realm beyond time and space.

However, there has never been a literal explanation of how this could possibly be true, so the very few in history who achieved this Enlightenment found their motivation through faith alone, and practiced contemplation sometimes for decades before realizing success.  Of course, spiritual teachings also say Enlightenment can be obtained through Grace alone, which evidently involves focusing on Love to the point where one fully realizes the Love of God within themselves.  But let’s restrict this discussion to those who choose to become sufficiently adept at exploring the universe through separation of consciousness in order to find God.

The good news is that with the development of quantum mechanics, there is a very simple interpretation of quantum mechanics which reveals that the mystical teachings which have been in existence for thousands of years are completely consistent with modern theoretical physics.  In fact, one of the most fundamental principles of theoretical physics, the Correspondence Principle, demands that if two apparently conflicting theories of the universe are true, there must be an interpretation revealing how each theory validates the other. In other words, faith in spiritual teachings alone is no longer necessary.  Belief in physics through a perfectly literal interpretation of quantum mechanics guarantees that Enlightenment is real and within anyone’s grasp.  The fundamental role of science has always been to reveal that when one understands certain aspects of the universe, one can then utilize this to learn to manipulate the universe to one’s advantage.  Spiritual teachings have always maintained that Enlightenment is inevitable.  Theoretical physics now tells us we can dramatically speed up that process.

What to Do in Eternity?

Life, or existence in the Eternal Realm is quite different than existence in the realms of time and space.  It has been often said that in the Eternal Realm there is cause, but no effect.  In the realms of time and space, there is cause and effect, but the effect is not on the states within time and space.  All quantum mechanical states exist simultaneously and eternally.  The only effects are on consciousness, gradually realizing its true nature.  In other words, if one wants to accomplish something of true value, one’s efforts must serve the goal of the awakening of consciousness, which is to become a co-worker with God.

AI

Should we worry about AI eliminating the human race?  I sincerely doubt it.  In my view, the physical realm exists in large measure as a laboratory to work through our personal episodes of poor judgement.  Besides that, whatever our environment turns out to be in any lifetime, one can rest assured it will be precisely what we each need for our evolution. And if AI ruins life on a particular planet, the next incarnation will offer plenty of new challenges.

The Bottom Line

Based on my understanding and experience within theoretical physics and spiritual studies, the ultimate prize is to establish one’s consciousness in the realm beyond time and space.  In a fundamental way, this is a solitary journey, and the journey itself must be experienced by the individual.

If you were to believe in the notion that 10,000 hours of practice makes one an expert at anything, then investing one hour in meditation or contemplation every day might result in Enlightenment in roughly 30 years.  Of course there are plenty of counterexamples to the 10,000 hours theory, and who is to say how much time you have already invested during other lifetimes?  Nonetheless, Enlightenment is not likely to be obtained over a weekend.

And there are very good reasons for this.  The conscious mind seems to adapt best to gradual change.  I remember clearly the first time I experienced a conscious Out-of-Body experience during contemplation.  As is fairly common for me, I tend to lose awareness for a while during contemplation and whatever experiences I have then are without awareness.  Then I pop back into awareness and become abruptly aware of something new and completely different.  So the first time this happened to me, I found myself flying above a beautiful jungle canopy.  This may not seem all that dramatic, but my conscious mind instantly freaked out and immediately put a stop to the experience.  Over time as I had more such experiences, my conscious mind became more familiar with these instantaneous transitions and allowed me to remain aware of OBE activity for longer periods.

It is also important to realize that one’s imagination and reality might need to engage in a sort of balancing act.  There is nothing wrong with using the imagination to mock up a scenario for your OBE evolution.  However, expectations are capable of interfering with some particular aspect of spiritual evolution you might need at some point.  I remember posing the question many, many times why my expectations hadn’t yet been fulfilled.  Eventually I received very clear spoken guidance on this: “What can you accept?”  All of the states I wanted to experience already existed, and all I needed to do was to become aware of them, but my mind was doing a spectacular job of getting in the way.  Spiritual guides exist for fundamental reasons.  They know exactly what experiences we need, while we generally do not. In any case, you are consciousness.  Consciousness is not finite.  You will eventually realize the various truths about yourself and accept them.  This takes time.  The mind is the interface that must be managed throughout this process, and it has been forming its cherished patterns of behavior for many lifetimes.  If change occurs too quickly it might be unable to continue the process.  Remember, time is an illusion.  It is not important how quickly evolution occurs.  It only matters that it happens, but focusing your attention and energy will determine how quickly your personal journey evolves.  Enjoy the ride.

Commentary on God Consciousness

Since the experience of God Consciousness itself cannot be accurately described, I believe it may be useful instead to describe some of its aspects.  Assuming a singular universe, the experience of God Consciousness is the experience of absolutely everything in its static, unchanging state.  As such, this could be described as the one, foundational truth of the universe.  All other experiences and truths are derivative of this one truth and can only be understood within a particular context.  All teachers capable of facilitating this experience for an individual teach exactly the same truth, and this one teaching has manifested throughout history within societies sufficiently tolerant to its message.  The name of the teaching has varied throughout time, as well as attempted descriptions of its substance, which have most recently come to be identified as all quantum mechanically allowable states in simultaneous existence, and all experienced simultaneously in the realm beyond the mind, which is beyond time and space.  The teachers who facilitate this experience exist eternally beyond time and space, and have complete freedom to manifest their existence at any point in time and space to provide their guidance.

This is where all valid teachings of God Consciousness become equivalent.  And this is how you achieve fundamental discrimination among all the spiritual teachings.  Teachings focusing on power, or prosperity, or psychic techniques fall infinitely short of God Consciousness.  However, if they focus on the path to God Consciousness early on, then this might indeed be a true teaching.  And another qualification is whether the teaching has a living master who can meet with an unlimited number of students on the inner for guidance.  Of course a physical, living master is not essential, as there are many masters who no longer run physical bodies but are available for guidance on the inner.  However, the physical existence of a living master with whom you consciously meet in contemplation, bolsters reason and motivation to believe that if that a person in a physical body can attain God Consciousness, then so can you, because they are no different from you.

It seems the entire point of the physical realm is little more than to keep us busy solving an endless series of puzzles until we eventually determine what is truly important.  When one attains God Consciousness, there are no more puzzles.

Spiritual Wrap-Up

So, you know what you are; Consciousness, which utilizes a mind and various bodies to interact within the realms of time and space.  And you are aware that you will continue to reincarnate in the realms of time and space until you attain a sufficient degree of Enlightenment in the eternal realm beyond time and space.  Such Enlightenment is realized through a contemplative, empirical exploration of the universe by separating Consciousness from the mind and your various bodies.  Understanding these principles allows you to realize that the chain of reincarnation can be broken through your personal effort, begun at a time of your choosing.

However, if it is your decision to attain Enlightenment, it is important to remember Buddha’s saying that Meditation without Understanding is Blind.  Meditation, or Contemplation, does indeed provide the means of exploration of the Universe sufficient to attain Enlightenment, but at each moment, there are an infinite number of choices leading to an infinite number of futures, and how do we know which choices will provide the shortest path to Enlightenment?  In all honesty, the individual does not know which path is best, and so a teacher, a guide is essential.

So how do you pick a teacher?  Perhaps the first consideration is to determine what that teacher offers.  If the teacher speaks only of time and space experiences, then they may well be able to provide guidance to relevant experiences in the lower planes, but likely not sufficient to attain Enlightenment.  And does this teacher not only describe spiritual experiences, but do they also accompany you on the inner to provide guidance?  Only the consciousness of Spirit itself can clearly see the best possible path for the seeker, so for the best possible guidance, look for a teaching which has a Living Master.  One who has made the complete journey, and returns to assist all who genuinely seek God Consciousness.  Such a Living Master is not likely to appear in all of your contemplative experiences, but they are not opposed to making occasional, or even frequent appearances in your inner journeys.

I have found that whether one seeks the treasures of physicality or of a spiritual nature, whenever material wealth or new spiritual experiences are attained, it is only a matter of days until one desires more.  Of course, material gains keep one firmly attached to the lowest manifestations, while inner experiences provide genuine progress to Enlightenment, but it is not until one successfully detaches from the limitations of the mind, allowing Consciousness to experience the entire universe in that eternal instant, that one finally escapes desire altogether, because at that moment, you realize you have everything.  Of course, you have always had the entire universe, but you weren’t yet aware of it.  And to achieve the greatest significance of this event, the gift of Enlightenment must be shared with the rest of Consciousness in the universe, and thus multiplied many times over.  At this point, one takes on the only genuine role possible––that of the Teacher.

How Could a Loving God Allow Such Suffering?

It depends upon your point of view.  While in a physical existence, suffering can be an apparently unbearable burden, often with little to no understanding of its cause.  However, with the release gained through death, suffering can instantly transform into something having no more substance than a fading memory.  The euphoria gained through the loss of the physical body can more than compensate for torture suffered while bound to the physical body.

In contrast, a Spiritual Master’s point of view is from the eternal realm beyond time and space.  Such an individual views all aspects of the realms of time and space for what they truly are, without any need or desire of them.  And that is a static collection of all quantum mechanically allowable states, each with no more substance than an image.  A Master understands that those who have not yet escaped from the realms of time and space are constrained by the mind to experience these states in an apparently causal sequence, offering an abundance of opportunity for suffering. A Spiritual Master always stands ready to assist the seeker in experiencing the truth of the structure and meaning of the universe, but indulging artificial interpretations of an individual’s experience of time and space is counterproductive.  The eventual realization that space-time experiences are illusory can only come from the experience of God Consciousness.

Goldfish

So a dear friend of mine in graduate school once mentioned to me his favorite cartoon where two goldfish in a bowl are having a conversation, and one says to the other, “Well if there’s no God, then who changes the water?”  He was an avowed atheist and I think this was his best argument for the lack of proof of God.  For over 40 years I’ve found this mildly amusing, but never bothered to consider any deeper message, until I was finally struck by a fundamental truth it related.

When it comes to religion, don’t trust any goldfish who has never had an OBE (Out-of-Bowl Experience).  And so, when discussing spiritual matters with others, it could be extremely significant whether they have had a near-death experience, or actually experienced the realm beyond time and space through meditation or contemplation.  Of course those experiences can subsequently be misinterpreted by the mind, and in so doing result in confusion, but experience should always trump conclusions obtained without any experiential basis.

Why is the Universe the Way it Is?

So You’re in the Market for a Universe

TUSPU

So you’re a new God and you’re trying to decide what type of universe to buy, and you come across this description on Amazon:  Self-generating eternal universe with zero maintenance and upkeep.  Just step back and watch it go Bang!  Automatically generates all possible wavelengths, which in turn generate all possible interference patterns.  Now the best feature of this model is that it is quantum mechanical, which means all allowable states exist simultaneously and eternally.  Of course this is a static universe, which by itself will not allow consciousness to evolve.  However, included in the package of interference patterns is the self-generating causality filter subsystem which automatically selects interference pattern sequences which are sufficiently similar to establish the belief of cause and effect within consciousness.  This is the MIND (Materially Inducing Neural Delusion) Subsystem which provides infinite entertainment for consciousness, while gradually allowing it to discern truth from illusion.

Of course there will be a small number of individual Souls which will occasionally develop the ability to separate consciousness from MIND, and thereby create an informational database documenting the actual structure and purpose of the universe, but this will be nearly completely ignored.  The subset of MIND units of consciousness generally identified as scientists will take at least several thousand years to be able to understand and validate the teachings of those who have solved the meaning of the universe.

The static nature of this universe is especially beneficial for dealing with those times when certain populations of Souls get out of hand, making it impossible for significant numbers of units of consciousness to make appropriate spiritual progress.  Since each unit of consciousness is simply watching images in causal sequences, all that must be done for putting any part of the universe back in working order is to simply reset MIND for the affected units of consciousness, give each unit of consciousness a small amount of starting karma, and you’re back in operation.  And with universal entanglement, this ensures the vast preponderance of all units of consciousness will be back on track for their gradual unfoldment.  Nearly everyone believing in the same illusion.  What could be better?

Copenhagen universes with their continuous need for reinflation can instantly bankrupt lesser Gods, so go with the best, TUSPU, The Ultimate Scratch-Proof Universe.  Comes with eternal warranty.

Theoretical Physics Has a Problem

PART 1: So, Theoretical Physics has a Problem

Dr. Ring’s Study of Apparent Eyeless Vision reported that people who were totally blind, provided precise, corroborated visual accounts from their Near-Death, Out-of-Body Experiences which could not be due to hallucination. Blind people, incapable of forming images in the brain, instantly attained undistorted vision from a position somewhere outside and above the body after physical life could no longer be sustained.

When confronted by such evidence, the scientific community generally accepts that evidently it is common for consciousness and the mind to persist after death, in a non-physical existence outside the body.

However, realization soon sets in that this phenomenon presents a profound and unavoidable challenge to our understanding of physics, in that such perception of images occurs without physical matter absorbing electromagnetic energy. How did the images form if there was no matter, without electrons to absorb the energy? Since the blind develop crystal-clear vision during Near-Death-Experiences without any physical matter processing light, this proves mainstream physics alone is incapable of explaining the universe, and requires inclusion of non-physical processes. Fortunately, a simple interpretation from mystical studies together with quantum mechanics establishes a basis for complete understanding. At this point, it is clearly laughable to imagine that theoretical physics is anywhere close to a Theory of Everything.

It is remarkable that Dr. Ring’s research on Apparent Eyeless Vision establishes the reality of this non-physical process.  It is equally remarkable that this forces us to consider the unification of theoretical physics and mystical teachings in order to hope to be able to have a complete understanding of the entire universe.

Upon realizing that the universe consists of much more than purely physical manifestations, one might logically expect that mainstream physics could not possibly provide adequate descriptions of non-physical phenomena.  Fortunately, mystical teachings offer centuries of realizations and techniques to explore the full extent of the universe.

My decades of research have convinced me that there are a number of spiritual teachings which rise to this standard, so I do not promote any teaching over another.  However, in order to come to my conclusions, I have only had time to sufficiently study one such discipline in depth, and my experiences will reflect that teaching.  All of this points to the reality that empirical experience of the individual is necessary to gain complete understanding and freedom within the universe, and out-of-the body travel as taught by various mystical schools provides the means to do so.  Much more will be related in subsequent materials.

PART 2: Where Are We and Where Are We Going?

Quantum mechanics is fundamental to the unification of physics and mystical teachings, and one of its oldest and most widely embraced tenets is the Copenhagen Interpretation, where it is assumed that all quantum mechanically allowable states exist simultaneously. However, one only experiences a single, specific state of the universe at any instant, and never all states at once. This fact caused physicists to reason that whenever any observer interacts in any way with the universe, the infinitude of wave-states instantly collapses into the single state experienced by that observer. And of course, the universe would need to instantly re-inflate to all allowable states to be ready for the next collapse in the next instant, and on and on it goes. This is likely the most egregious insult ever to the principle of Occam’s Razor, that the best explanation of a phenomenon is generally the simplest one.

What you will see is that an exceptionally simple interpretation attributed to an ancient Tibetan, allows complete consistency between quantum mechanics and mystical teachings, without the contrivance of waveform collapse. Perhaps the greatest physicist in history never had any university degrees at all.

To summarize, each of us exists as consciousness attached to a mind and body, making sense of the universe by experiencing individual states in a causal sequence. Eventually we learn to detach from the body and explore the universe in a non-physical manner. Finally, we detach from the mind as well and experience the entire universe at once in the shared view called Universal, or God Consciousness.

We now have a literal understanding of where we are going, and that understanding came through the study of physics, or more specifically, quantum mechanics. And through that understanding, we realize that physics points us to an existence beyond time and space, to the realm described by the mystics. At this point, since mystical teachings have existed for thousands of years, one might claim that theoretical physicists must be guilty of poor scholarship. Why didn’t they seriously consider mystical teachings long ago?

Well, quantum mechanics had to be developed first, and then there is the reality that to receive research funding, professional physicists must largely restrict their research to topics currently receiving funding. Beyond that, anyone serious about researching mystical teachings must also be willing to undertake a decades-long contemplative study.

A purely intellectual study would fail. The second part of the statement attributed to Buddha earlier is that Understanding Without Meditation is Without Fruits. The benefits of contemplation or meditation are purely empirical. Without personal experience, one could not possibly know what they were talking about.

PART 3: The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that mainstream theoretical physics is comfortable with the possibility of the infinite complexity of infinite universes, along with universal waveform collapse and reinflation every instant in order to explain causality. However, causality is only necessary as long as the mind is interpreting, or “making sense” of the universe. Since consciousness can experience the universe independent of the mind, beyond the realm of space and time, it experiences all quantum mechanical states simultaneously and no interactions occur at all. This static universe unifies theoretical physics and mystical teachings, and provides understanding through literal, scientific truth, without the need for metaphor, and we finally have an understanding of an eternal realm. The universe of mainstream theoretical physics is simply a specific interpretation of the more general static universe.

The universe is simple. It is static. It can be completely understood by those willing to learn the techniques taught by those who have mastered separation of consciousness from body and mind. If you restrict yourself to the physical realm, your scientific basis is limited to untestable conjecture based on theories. If you go beyond the physical, contemplation is the laboratory, and only empirical evidence gathered beyond the realm of time and space can be considered complete.

PART 4: The Bottommost Line The physicist in me would love to understand how the mind works.  How does it maintain causality for the infinitude of units of consciousness throughout the realms of time and space?  For the time being, I’m content with the reality that it just doesn’t seem to matter.  The physical realm is akin to the sandbox in the kindergarten classroom for consciousness, and the succeeding realms of time and space represent successively advanced levels of awareness.  Once one attains sustained consciousness within the Eternal Realm, one also attains complete freedom within all realms of existence, and at that point, perhaps it really doesn’t matter how the mind works.  But at this point, I would still like to know.

And now for a similar presentation with more emphasis on Physics

The Real Theory of Everything

How Necessary is Causality?

I have personal, empirical evidence of a dramatic violation of causality.  During the summer of 1969 I was on a saw crew fighting a forest fire in Glacier Park when my foreman shouted my name and screamed “LOOK OUT!”  I looked up just in time to see a rock that weighed perhaps 50 pounds coming directly at me and no more than a foot in front of my face.  It had been rolling downhill for at least a quarter of a mile and had to be traveling at least 60 miles per hour.  I wasn’t doing any calculations in my head at this point, but I instantly knew I would be dead before I could move.  Gravity certainly couldn’t pull me out of the way and if there could have been some mechanism to accelerate my head out of the way in time, I wouldn’t have survived that acceleration either.  However, in the next instant, I was on the ground.  One instant vertical–– flat on the ground in the next.  Impossible.  But I had an independent witness.  My foreman came over and in disbelief asked how that had happened.  Of course at that moment I was incapable of processing the event.  Reviewing this experience over the years leads me to attribute this fortunate turn of events to something akin to divine intervention rather than any supernatural power of my own, but the point is I could not have survived this without the violation of causality. My best guess is that a spiritual guide chose this to illustrate that causality is not absolute.

The Biggest of All the Big Ideas
